Gastritis is primarily defined as irritation, inflammation, or deterioration in the protective mucus lining of the stomach. Gastritis, or inflammation of the stomach, has been shown to elevate the chance of gastric sores, gastrointestinal bleeding, or gastric cancer. The two principal forms of stomach inflammation are nonerosive gastritis and erosive gastritis. Nonerosive gastritis diminishes the stomach lining, while erosive gastritis eats through it.

Gastritis may come about abruptly (acute gastritis) or happen little by little over time (chronic gastritis). In many cases, the condition will not lead to concerning difficulties and resolves promptly with treatment. If you need treatment for gastritis in Lubbock, TX, help is within reach. To receive therapy for this problem, connect with a GI doctor at Lubbock Digestive Disease Associates by contacting us for an appointment today.

Gastritis is caused by stomach acid damaging the lining of the stomach after the mucus barrier protecting the organ breaks down. The condition can be more concerning for patients who have diseases like liver conditions, kidney problems, and lung conditions. Normally, gastritis or chronic stomach inflammation may be caused by:

  • Eating spicy foods
  • Consuming acidic foods like tomatoes and citrus fruits
  • Taking excess amounts of aspirin or anti-inflammatory pain relievers, such as Ibuprofen
  • Consistent stress
  • Cigarette smoking
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Consuming fatty or deep-fried foods
  • Consuming high amounts of sodium
  • Bacterial infections — such as H. pylori
  • Bile backing up from the liver or gallbladder
  • Vomiting
  • Bacterial or viral infections
  • Drinking too much caffeine

Using particular medications could also contribute to the formation of gastritis. These medications are:

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like aspirin, naproxen, and ibuprofen
  • Chemotherapy drugs
  • Corticosteroids

Dr Jabor was very efficient, thorough, and took his time reviewing my medical history. He also asked a lot of questions pertaining to family history as well. The medical staff from the front desk to the examining room were professional and patient. There were many patients in the waiting room since anll the morning appointments had to be rescheduled a hour or so later due to the weather and all were seen in a timely manner. I didn’t realize there were so many doctors in the building!
